MJM Limited is pleased to announce that it has been highly ranked by Chambers & Partners in the Chambers Global Rankings 2016 for Bermuda.

Chambers described MJM as being a “Well-established independent firm drawing praise for its outstanding knowledge of the Bermudian market.”

In the area of Dispute Resolution, our department was regarded as follows: “Its caseload features an impressive range of contentious work, including insolvency, trust litigation and contentious insurance and reinsurance. The government of Bermuda and several governmental agencies are among the firm’s regular clients.”

Strengths of the practice, quoted mainly from clients, include:

“We find they are very keen to give you a first-class service and be seen right up there with the two big firms in terms of the quality of work they do.”
“They’ve got their finger on the pulse of what’s going on in Bermuda; they’re very strategic in their advice and always think five steps ahead.”

Dispute Resolution attorneys and MJM Directors Alan Dunch and Andrew Martin received Band 1 rankings.

Alan Dunch, who leads MJM’s Dispute Resolution practice, was described as follows: ‘Clients and peers alike hold seasoned practitioner Alan Dunch in high regard for his depth of experience and measured approach to disputes. One source said: “While he is a good advocate, he is more of the view that 90% of the game is trying to resolve matters before they get to court,” adding: “That’s one reason why I like working with him.” He takes the lead on many of the firm’s most notable cases.

Andrew Martin was noted for being ‘a popular choice amongst clients, one of whom highlights his “very thoughtful and no-nonsense advice.” His impressive experience extends to insolvency, trust and employment disputes, in addition to general commercial litigation. He has undertaken numerous major disputes in all these fields throughout his career.’

MJM’s Corporate and Finance practice area was praised for having a ‘Compact and highly experienced team with a strong reputation in aviation and shipping-related transactions. Also known for its experience in the energy and natural resources sector. Undertakes a considerable number of instructions originating in Asia and Norway.’

A client was quoted asserting that “MJM remains a very good firm and punches above its weight.”

Peter Martin, who leads the Corporate and Finance team, was ranked in Band 1 and Chambers described him as ‘very well regarded amongst peers who reserve particular praise for his “straightforward, plain-English manner of speaking.” He was lead partner advising Seadrill and its subsidiary North Atlantic Drilling on the Bermuda aspects of its joint venture with Russian state-controlled oil company Rosneft.’

Senior Associates Brian Holdipp and Jeremy Leese were also recognised as notable practitioners.

Brian Holdipp was described as having “a growing reputation as one of the jurisdiction’s most capable senior associates. He advised Knightsbridge Shipping on a proposed combination with Golden Ocean Group, believed to be the first instance of a direct merger between two Bermuda-incorporated public companies.”

Jeremy Leese was regarded as being ‘”a pleasant guy to work with and good in negotiations.” He acted for Citigroup Global Markets Asia on a USD300 million loan facility extended to DFS Holdings as part of a refinancing deal.’

Throughout the years, MJM has been consistently recognized by Chambers Global as a leading firm in Bermuda.
