At MJM we take great pride in the work we do. Often that work involves helping local organizations provide resources which benefit our island community.
Yesterday, the island’s first radiation therapy unit was officially opened at the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Cancer patients will now be able to benefit from cutting-edge radiation treatments here at home, where they can receive emotional support from family and friends and continue on with their lives instead of going overseas for several weeks. In partnership with the Dana-Farber Brigham & Women’s Cancer Centre in Boston and the Bermuda Hospitals Board, the project started in 2014 when a review of gaps in cancer care on island was undertaken. From there, it turned into a 2 year project aimed at creating a world-class facility that provides pain relieving radiation treatment to people in Bermuda.
“Our dream has become a reality,” Judy White, president of the BCHC board of directors, said. “No longer will approximately 200 people every year have to travel overseas for their radiation treatment. Cancer patients can now be treated in Bermuda…”
Providing the absolute best possible patient care is of the utmost importance for the team at the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre’s Radiation Therapy Unit, and the Unit is now ready to serve its first patient.
At the ribbon cutting ceremony that took place yesterday, May 17th 2017, MJM Attorney, Jennifer Haworth, was recognized by the Centre for the tireless hours she has spent reviewing the various legal contracts leading up to the opening of this radiation treatment facility in Bermuda. Jennifer has been a member of the Board of Directors at the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre for 10 years and is the Chair of the Governance & Compliance Committee.
MJM Corporate Attorney Jeremy Leese also supported the project, reviewing various contracts.
